I notice the start of some small bubble algae growths in my nano.  I was wondering if I added an emerald crab if he would take care of it or will he pick on my corals?  I have an acan and monti along with some zoas. so I don't want him messing with them.  So whats the scoop on emerald crabs?

I would say that emerald crabs (mithrax) are generally reef safe as long as they're small.  I would give it a go.  Let us know.

Depending on how much valonia you have, you can manually pluck them out.

I don't have much and they are not big bubbles at all, but I don't want them to get bigger.

mostly depends on the crab but I've had three...one didn't make it through molt... but for some weird reson I've noticed the one that died and one of the two I have like to eat the super glue on new frags of my gsp, it messed up the frag and tore it off but did not eat it and the gsp did recover.  but have climbed on my corals, especially new ones, and has not disturbed them

My emerald hasn't touched my corals...so far.  From other posts/forums I've read, emeralds seem hit-or-miss.

I have 3 in my 65 and they completely cleared out all the valonia in my tank.

I had 3 in my 55 gallon and they did great getting rid of the bubble algae and keeping it under control. After all the algae was gone one of which happened to be quite large started eat my mushroom in its corner of the tank and some zoo's. As it continued to get bigger it took over most of the tank. It would hold down my other emerald crabs with one claw and with the other snip off its legs. I also found my large Red brittle star with all its legs stubbed I assume it got in a fight with the large emerald crab. But the smaller emerald never bothered any of my corals and they actually live in under some of my mushroom.
