So I have a very heavily stocked 90g with no problems. But at night as the lights start to change the yellow tang swims rapidly back and forth the tank spreading her fins and the other act a little more agitated. I was wondering if this could be a sign of 02 loss. ------------- I dont mean to brag but, yeah it's 6ft long. |

Oh and I do have a extr large skimmer and a fuge running in reverse of the tank. They over lap by 2 hours ------------- I dont mean to brag but, yeah it's 6ft long. |

Thats what the wife said, Im going to have to come up with a better anwser than that when the wife asked or I will never live it down!! Any time she is right on a saltwater thing she rags on me forever.

just make sure you have a good ripple on the top of the water. that helps ALOT of problems. 02 bing one of them. r u running an ozone? ------------- 75 Reef 55 Reef |

NO OZONE, Lots of surface waves 2 Hydors and 2 returns not a flat spot to ski on. ------------- I dont mean to brag but, yeah it's 6ft long. |

I've never test for O2, but I've read a few articles where the author did test. Although it did vary with the photosynthesis cycle, there was never any real issues as long as you kept good water circulation. Sounds like you have good circulation... psycho tang. Prozac might help?

Wasnt it Shane that would train his fish with a stick?

| my 3 fish seem to do the same thing, the daylights go off and they kinda go crazy active under the actinic light, to me I think they know the lights go out in an hour and are running around eating pods as fast as they can before night and they can not see and have to go to sleep. |

I'm sure there is plenty of O2. And low Oxygen would create lethargic movements, not hyper.
Here's my thought. 10 minutes before the tank lights go out, get that easy chair and move it about 6 feet from the tank. Sit back in the easy chair with a nice glass of water. Sit back, drink the water and watch what happens as the lights go out. Then leave a dim light on or have a dim flashlight handy to watch where that Tang goes after dark. Watch to see if it has a place to hide and sleep or does it just keep zooming around. If it does not settle down right away, I suspect that it does not feel safe in the tank. Maybe there are some perceived predators in the tank or some fin nippers, a mantis shrimp, etc.
There may have been something in a previous tank or even in the ocean that created this nervous behavior. Fish need places to hide especially at night, so consider rearranging the rock to provide more holes and crevices for hiding and if there are no moonlights consider adding that. Cool thanks Mark, I will do that. It sounds like a good resson to kick back to be and the wife cant argue with that this test cost 0$$$.
rtparty, He would train his fish not to nip at corals or chase each other. He would have a long stick and every time the fish niped exc. he would snap the stick aginst the tank and I here they learned, Ive tryed but mine still poop I might have to think of something eles to train them. ------------- I dont mean to brag but, yeah it's 6ft long. |
