I've got a tang that I've been worried about ich problems with so I got a couple of peppermint shrimp for the tank. From the very first second that I put them in the tang has been following them around and sidling up to them trying to get cleaned, but they keep running away from him. Does anyone know how long it takes for them to "set up shop"? I worried that the tang will get bored and stop trying. Thanks! Brian |

That is what I was going to say. I think they may take forever to set up shop, and wouldn't count on it. I would go with cleaner shrimp, and obviously garlic. Adam ------------- Come to a meeting, they�re fun! |

Hmm, I got the peppermints because I don't have a lot of fish (3) and thought that the cleaners pretty much only ate parasites. What else can they eat? Brian |

My cleaners eat everything! They are very good at stealing silversides from my anemones. Otherwise they eat brine, flake, just about anything.

I agree with the above, cleaner shrimp are great to have around. Unfortunately, my cleaner's business has been severely impacted by a copycat Fire Shrimp! But as an FYI Meeshi, they are generally scavengers. Most LFS sell them. Aquatic Dreams up North has them, The Aquarium or Aquatica down South usually have them. Ok I got a cleaner shrimp from Aquatica last week and he's been doing great. Now, however, I can't find him anywhere! No shrimp, no body, nothing. It's not that big of a tank. Has anyone had a cleaner shrimp go AWOL? I've looked around the tank, but he could have gone a little ways before dying. ------------- Provo, Utah |

Shrimp can fit into surprisingly small places. He is probably just hiding out and nervous from being introduced into the tank. Look for him at night - mine always like to scurry around the tank after lights out.

Well, we'll keep looking, its just weird, he's been doing so well. Just hanging out on top of the rocks, checking everything out. Until now he hasn't hid at all. The peppermints only come out when its night or feeding time though. ------------- Provo, Utah |

There is also the off chance that he is in a molt. They will hide out until the exoskeleon has been cast and the new one is hardened. As a side note, it was mentioned that peppermints are not cleaners. Well, mine are confused then. I noticed recently that all 4 shrimp (2 peppermints, 1 cleaner and one fireshrimp who all occupy the same rock) now take "turns" cleaning their tankmates. ------------- In Syracuse "I believe that forgiving them is God's function.
