Alright here is a challange for anyone who is up for it.......I have found the skimmers for the 10 gal and up but a 6 gal.........I have been doing some drawing and have come up with a couple of layouts for a protein skimmer that fits in a 6 gal nano.........has anyone else tried this or even thougth about it......the trick is it has to be so small.....we are trying to get it to fit in the back/center chamber in the nano overflow so people don't have to modify their little nanos and add it behind..........the best we can come up with is a two inch tub that is cut to the length and sits on top of the pump....the hose is run into the side of the tub and another runs down the inside of the 2 inch this tub.....I will try to make a drawing in Paint.........this should be interesting ------------- http://www.highendcorals.com/">

OK here is the layout we have so far........
Does the inner tub need to be centered we the water can circle or does this matter? Also stumped on how to do the top......the catch...you know the most important part.....Any ideas.....remember the main tube is 2 inches and the total height needs to be less than 12 inches....including the pump...... ------------- http://www.highendcorals.com/">

I have one that is commercially made for the 12/24g nanos. Like Ewalds said when I got it. "Good luck. " Not only do you not need one on a tank that small but what a pain. If you want to increase the filtration then I would add a couple of reactors. 1-charcoal 1- phos ban. I have about 12 pounds of liverock in it.....yeah it is full......
Do you think one sock of carbon and one o phos reducer would do the trick on filtration....... I also am using water from my main tank to keep both at about the same levels......obviously after testing it for anything harmfull....... ------------- http://www.highendcorals.com/">

Are you doing your water changes with tank water from your main tank?
I had a 2.5 and a 5.5 at one time. I'm notorious for over stalking my tanks. I would do about 20% a week and every thing was great. On my 24g now I change about 4 gallons a month. I have set up a reactor with charcoal and one with phosban. But there are 6-8 fish in there and all of the inverts. I don't believe a skimmer on anything smaller than 29 gallons is of much worth. JMO. Small tanks need frequent water changes. I have a 29 that's moving along quite well. I'm getting a lot of coral growth on frogspawn, xenia, ricordia, and zoanthids. I think upping my light would help too. So far just weekly 10% water changes. No skimming. ------------- Ils sont fous, ces Romains! |

I agree that a skimmer in a small tank is a impractical.
