It appears that my heater is not functioning properly. I would be interested in replacing with a titanium heater. I haven't ever really looked to see if this is something the local shops carry. I have never been a fan of titanium heaters. I can't keep one working for more than a couple of months. I have tried many different models without success. I decided to install a huge pump to heat the water while providing current and a chiller to cool it.

I have a 300 watt Via Aqua Titanium that has worked great for 14 months. I even bought a new one for my new system. (which is still in the planning stages) ------------- |

I appreciate the responses especially brands and experiences. I had an older 200w ebo-jagger that I cracked a couple of years ago. I replaced it with the same one which is a couple of years old. I turn it down and then off as we go into summer. This fall I turned it on and now have tried to turn it up and it will only work to 75 or 76 degrees. I have a digital temp gauge as well as a cheap stick on thermometer (like a check fixture if you will). Lately some mornings when I get up the tank reads 75.9. I would like to be at 80 degrees. I guess tomorrow I'll go shopping and see if we can turn up the heat. As a side note from another post, this evening I messed around with one of those MJmods kits. I'll let all the glue dry overnight so I haven't put it in the tank yet. It was quick and easy to put together, can't wait to see how its going to work. I have had two maxi-jets in my tank for additional flow. Both had the little Hydor rotating nozzles on them and I thought that was not bad. A water temp of 76 degrees is fine. If you look on the back of the WMAS business card you'll see that 75-80 is the right range. Currently some of my tanks are at 72 which is okay for winter. 80 is at the top of the acceptable range, but keeping the tank at 80 is not advisable because when the weather warms a little, even for a day, the tank can easily jump above that and lead to problems.

Are you sure about that? I'm with Mark on this one. I'd much rather have my tank at 74 or 76 and not at 80.

I guess I'll continue to watch a little longer to see how things are. Nothing right now seems to be in any trouble. I really shoud wait until I win the new tank tonight before buying any other equipment. Then I can start right from the beginning with exactly what I want. Good advice Mark and Adam, I was just always under the impression that 78-80 was the ideal.
