I'm ready to put some moonlights on my 120G and am wondering how much light do I need?
I don't want daylight. I don't care to induce spawning or do moon cycles. I just want to be able to see what is going on in the tank when the other lights are off. I expect to have to wait for my eyes to adjust. If they make the corals fluoresce some that would be cool. Seems like the trend is for more and brighter. I want it dim enough so the night critters still come out and do their thing.
Anyone happy with their lights? Maybe a couple blue low watt incandescent? Maybe LEDs? Maybe dimmable?
Tank is 48" X 24" X 24"

I have 5 blue LEDs on mine and I'm happy with it, but it might be brighter than you are looking for. I put them together myself for about 7-10 bucks - dimmable would be nice. Critters still come out. My tank is 36L" x 18"W x 24"H

Bruce may be using his on a controller. I know he went with low watt incandescent and has a neptune. To use the moon phases on the controller you need incancescent. ------------- |

I have heard(read) that the dc-8(neptune) on port 8 will dim moonlights if they are incandesants. (it is a undocumented feature, they may flicker or somthing at a real low setting) I have been thinking about rearranging things as soon as I get the calcium reactor dialed in. just wondering if the "feature" is worth the cost of getting the x10 modules. if that doesn't really work well, or if I should just get a dc4 later. ------------- Family Portraits /Google trusted Photographer for Google Maps for Businesses |

To me it is not worth it. I have port 8 open on mine but it uses true moonrise/moonset times. Sometimes to moon rises and sets during daylight hours. It is a cool feature though. ------------- |
