Just kidding. Its in a 10 gallon tank right now. I am first wondering if anyone on the board keeps these and also wondering if anyone has any general care tips. Thanks

You had me going there!!!!!!
Very hard to kill! Feed it a snail now and again or just some meaty food. Is it colorful or drab?

I just recently pulled out one of my favorite pieces of live rock and put it in my refugium because of a mantis shrimp. He started to kill things that I could notice.

I think he is awsome and plan on keeping him in there. As far as general care tips- Feed it. Other than that I can't help you. But if you do want more info you can go onto reefcentral and they have an entire subforum devoted to the cool creatures.

By the way, mine is lime green and is about 2" long. How about yours?

Oh, one other thing. Aquatica has an Female Peacock Mantis and it is very cool. It is about 5" long. Just thought I would pass that along.

Oh, one other site you can look for care info is www.blueboard.com

I don't think you can mix mantis shrimp. From what I understand they are very territorial. I have read more than one post on reef central stating to be careful when ever you put your hands in their tank because if you arn't watching your mantis may just decide to try and give you a little suprise. OUCH. I have also read posts where people have tried to put eggcrate in their tank to seperate two mantis shrimp but have to constantly replace it because the mantis shrimp just bust through it. I don't know what type of mantis they are refering to though. Probably a Peacock since they are so large.

One other thing I read last night is that you should include some crabs or snails in their diet. According to what I read, if you don't then the mantis may lose a club during a molt due to lack of use.
