sorry for the poor picture quality... the lighting was difficult.

What do you see?

And was I naive to think it would not happen?

Peppermints are quite tasty, as I understand it. ;)

My coral banded chases my cleaners all the time. I suppose its just a matter of time. The whole predator/prey thing is cool though isn't it.

I've read about coral banded shrimp being predatory toward other shrimp.  I really wanted to have one, but this fact warded me away.

That's a cool picture Jon!

Shane,  it was very interesting.  I now think that my coral banded shrimp could catch a fish if he desired!  It happened very quickly, I had no idea the cbs could move that fast (or was that hungry).

The lone survivor...  Any bets on how long he'll stay out of the clutches of Mr Pinchy?

Jon - how long have you had the flame scallop?  I've heard that they can't live in our tanks for longer than 6 mos.  What's your experience with them?

I've had him going on 5 months.  This is the first one I've ever had.  I'd be interested in other people's experiences too.

I have had my two flame scallops for about 2 months now. so far so good. Jon, do you feed yours directly or let them filter feed? Neat pictures Jon... I have $50 on the CB in the 6th!

I don't feed directly (do you?).  The first 3 1/2 months in my tank, I was feeding home grown phyto.  About a pint of dark green water per day.  I haven't fed any in about a 1 1/2 months.  My culture crashed (or maybe a lighter color strain has taken over???) and I've been too lazy to get another start.

My CBS will "pinch" fish as they swim by. But he hasn't caught anything yet. Russ Dixon puts one in every tank he sets up. The risk to fish must be low enough to take a chance. My shrimp tend to stay at opposite ends of my tank. CBS on the north side, Cleaners on the South side. I feed heavily so that may keep everyone happy (and friendly) I do leave my tank for upwards of a week at a time throughout the summer w/out feeding - but I havn't lost anything lately (except for a purple firefish) hummmmm. Maybe the CBS got him - I hadn't thought about that....

JF, no I do not directly feed. The way I figure it, when I put food in the current it pretty well travels the tank. They are bound to get some. Additionally, they chose their spots, I guess that they would move if they were unhappy. Just my thoughts. But, they expel waste periodically, so I guess that's a good sign. Now if I could get hold of some oysters and start farming pearls.... Maybe black lipped mullosks with those really expensive pearls...
