i need a cover for my 29 g aquarium.  could i use acrylic to make it or would it warp to much over time

it will warp too much unless you use something fairly thick which is more expensive than glass.

why do you want to cover your aquarium?  covering it prevents gas exchange, makes heat build up quickly, and decreases the intensity of the lights as salt spray gets on the cover.  i think most people here would say the cons far out weight the benifits.

If you are covering you aquarium due to wanting to keep critters in you might want to use light difuser, also known as egg crate...it's not too expensive and is easy to cut to size.
