I have a 29 gal (30x12x18) FOWLR that I want to buy new lights for.  I currently have an Eclipse hood on it that I retrofitted a 65W PC 50/50 bulb into, but I want something that has the versatility and potential for LPS and SPS.

I would prefer a 30" fixture but it seems most of the top brands don't make those so I guess I would use a 24" as an alternative.

I am leaning towards T5HO because they seem to have more PAR than PC and not as much cost/heat as MH.

I know ATI is pretty dang great but also expensive.  I was looking at the Coralife Aqualight T5HO 2-bulb 30" fixture and it seemed like a good price but I figured there was probably something better for not a whole lot more money.

What are your recommendations for size/brand/type for a 29 gal for SPS and LPS?

First choice ATI in a 4x24w setup.

Second choice would be a Tek fixture in the 4x24w setup.

The Coralife you mentioned will not house SPS. You will be lucky to keep softies with only 2 bulbs. If you are serious about coral you are going to need a 4 bulb setup.

If you want to keep it super cheap and are willing to sacrifice some quality and performance, you could look into the Fish Need It stuff. I would change all the bulbs though and that is going to run you another $100 for 4 bulbs.

Buy cheap, buy often. I have learned to do it right the first time.
