Recently I acquired a live sponge and was told it was a "Red Ridge Sponge." I know the general care for the majority of sponges and have been giving this sponge that treatment (no air exposure, dim lighting, strong laminar flow, supplemental feeding of phytoplankton/zooplankton, etc.) and haven't seen any problems as of yet. I won't say it's doing well because it's simply too early to tell but it certainly hasn't been degrading in any noticeable way. I would however like to know exactly what type of sponge this is but google has failed me in my quest to find the "red ridge" sponge's scientific name. I was thinking it might be microciona prolifera but that seems to be generally more branched. Anyone have any other ideas?
All of these photos were taken of a small sample cut from the main colony which was never exposed to air.
