I was doing tank maintanance the other day and I had a cut on my finger A few hours later I started breaking out with what appears to be poisin ivy rash and was wondering if anyone has ever had this happen to them before? If so what did you do to get rid of it! Now I know what a fish with ich feels like must be people ich!

I know jared from reefkingdom has had some wicked reactions in the past. I don't know what he did to feel better at the time but he always wears gloves now

Pa reptileman 4 the link you gave appears to be the same rash as in the pics as well as itchy like described. I haven't had any of the other symptoms yet.I know hydrocortisom cream dont' touch the itch when it starts. Im headin for the benadryl as I type thank's!!

Benadryl should help. I hope you are feeling better soon.

If it doesn't go away soon, you can go to your doctor and get a steroid shot.  Sometimes it takes a steroid to get rid of something like that.  And if it were me, I would either get some allergy testing done, or ask your doctor for an epi pen.  Because personally I would want to know exactly what it was that made me break out from head to toe, mainly because if you reacted like that, that quick, you never know, you might have an anafelectic reaction next time. (not sure if I spelled that right)

Perhaps I would be better at basket weaving. . . at least it would be cheaper!

Another point to consider is each subsequent exposure can be much worse than the previous one.

Ouch.  Be careful if you have cuts.  I use New Skin on my cuts if I am going to be sticking my hand/arm in the tank.  It works great.  Many of us have reaction to sticking our hands in the tank too much.  I have some cream that I have to use when my arm breaks out in a rash.
You can read more on the "normal" reactions here http://www.utahreefs.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=21204&KW=itch
I should wear gloves as I spend more time with a rash than without, but I haven't found a pair that will work for my deep tank.  I just make sure to wash my arms as soon as they are out of the tank and apply lotion to keep the tiny skin cracks away.
It really sucks but hang in there.  Smile
