Topic: AI Prime or hydra26? Posted: January 12 2016 at 5:52pm |
I'm thinking of upgrading the lighting on my 28 gallon JBJ Nano cube LED. The stock lighting on this tank is 14000 K and has worked great for growing coral in my tank. Im interested in upgrading my lights to either the AI prime or hydra 26 (mainly for the controllability). I have a mix of SPS, LPS, and zoas/palys corals in my tank. My question is....will the AI prime provide enough light intensity for the SPS corals in my tank? or would the hydra 26 be a better option? Thanks in advance!

With that tank being only 20" deep dry either one of those lights would work just fine. The Hydra 26 will have more adjustability and be running at a lower total power level at operating brightness you would be running.

I just put two AI Hydra 26 HD's on my SR80 and I love them. They are very, very bright with lots of adjustability. I went from two AI Sol's to these and within no time I noticed my corals were a lot happier and were responding to the new lights. The nice thing about the HD's, like the prime there is no need for an additional controller or director, just down load the miAI app and your good to go. Just my two cents. Thanks.

Pick whichever has the fuller spectrum. I've heard the ai have some problems with ease of actually using the controls. Don't be surprised if you have some troubles.

That is true with the older AI lights. Both of the lights he mentions are new wireless controllable lights and have very precise control. If he was looking into AI SOL lights with the old controller then I would agree.

I will admit the miAI app is not very user friendly and there are no instructions on how to set them up. I have complained to AI about it, but once you figure it out and read a little from posts, it's good.
