I think that honing out the airway would allow the creation of larger air bubbles, which would make the skimmer less efficient since skimmers work really well when mixing really small bubbles in the skimmer chambers.

Do you have a mesh mod or anything on the skimmer? If so the mesh mod would chop up the bubbles so that they are nice and small. I still have a hard time thinking that it would add enough benefit to be worth the risk.

Honing out the air inlet will allow more air in. Honing the water inlet tube will add more water in.

Mesh mod is an awesome upgrade. Ive had nothing but awesome performance with mine and haven't seen any "risk". Many have warned but I have yet to actually see something damaged from the mod.

Now that I re-read my thread I realize I wasn't very clear. I was referring to the risk of honing out the air inlet. If something goes strange there is a risk of breaking the air inlets and pieces surrounding it.

I am a huge fan of the mesh mod. I was trying to provide low cost alternatives that provide performance gains as an alternative to honing out the air inlet. Hopefully that helps clear up my original post.

Your right. Honeing out the air intake is risky. Ive done it to my g3 but it was a delicate operation. I agree with Lyscer that the mesh mod would be a more beneficial modification.

You can bore it out just go up one size on the drill bit but as mentioned go slow it can twist the air inlet right off.
There are a couple other ways you can make a newer much more efficient venturi as well.

I was afraid of that! Any suggestions on a pump that can be mesh modded?

Anyone have info on the mesh mod for a Sedra pump? And is it really worth doing the mod? My skimmer seems to work just fine now. Just thinking this may be a case of "if it ain't broke don't fix it."

One of the best mods you can do. I wouldn't own one with out doing it.
