I got this idea from an article from Advanced Aquarist's Magazine ( http://www.advancedaquarist.com/2002/1/aafeature. The powerheads would be on timers to be on and off in an alternating fashion so that current in the tank would alternate from left to right as the pumps turned off and on. Has anyone made a tank like this before? If so I would love to know how it worked out...
jordan, i recently set up a 180 with a setup similar to this but the "powerheads" are 3600gph closed loops running externally to the tank. there is a lot to think about beyond the intuitive design. fortuantely it has worked out extremely well and i would recommend it to anyone, but it worked out in a very different manner than i thought it would.
you're welcome to stop by and see it before the 1st of may or i'm happy to answer any questions.
The "poor mans wavemaker" makes water go clockwise and then counterclockwise in my frag tank. It simulates tidal flows and makes coral grow very symetrical. It's one MaxiJet powerhead and a timer. It's less complicated than the design above.
