My experience with majanos and the killing of them...

I bought a frag rock with some on it. I wanted to do the pickeling lime thing but couldn't find any. So, I bought a hypodermic needle from the Rx, placed the rock in a tupperware bowl next to the stove and injected boiling water into them. Done and have not seen them since.

I then had to do it to aiptasia that I brought home without knowing it. In this case I couldn't remove the rock, so I did a mad dash between the stove and the tank. Although it cools rapidly, it was still hot enough to kill them.

My Mom told me not to run with scissors, but she didn't say anything about not running with hypodermic needles.

My peppermints dissapeared when I added a couple cleaner shrimp. Now I have a few aiptasia coming back and would like to get rid of them.

I havn't been very successful with the straight injection method. Aptasia would pull in when I got close. I've used hot water from the tank heated to boiling in the microwave and squirted that directly on them. It stuns the large ones and then you can inject if you like. The smaller ones just die from being cooked. After you get the problem down Peppermint Shrimp will keep it under control.

Pickling Lime is Kalkwasser. It is sold in some grocery stores for canning pickles.

Kalkwasser has been discussed a lot here on the MB. It's German for "Calcium/Chalk Water" Do a search. It is Calcium Hydoxide, Ca(OH)2, a chemical that adds a lot of Calcium to the aquarium when used as topoff. I don't have a Calcium Reactor, but my clams, LPS and SPS seem to grow very well with 1-2 gals of Kalkwasser added every night.

It can be bought at the LFS or I can just give you some.

If you are injecting it hot then I would understand that, but like Jon said if you are cooling after I would just skip the heating process.
