The tank was moved to its current location, (with 90% new water) my house in april, during that time I have only done 2 water changes, one that was 15 gallons in aug and then I did a 50 gallon two weeks ago.

 

Thoughts to speed its (cyano) death?

 

I dont have a way to test this, is there a kit or product you recommend? I am guessing I could take some down to one of the LFS and have them test it.

 

How old is the RO Membrane?

 

I bought the RO unit (new from AD in clearfield) about a year ago.. But I only used it about 1 month before I moved my tank and then I just got the line ran and setup in november.. So I would say it has 4-5 months use on it (So I was using tap water for a good 7 months)

When was the last time the DI Resin was changed?

 

See above... (never) But just so I know is the a scheduled amount of time when I should change them? or is it more based on my TDS readings?

How about tank feeding, like how much and how often of what foods?

 

Ok feeding is pretty simple, I feed frozen mysis I use 1 cube daily, also every other day I put a strip of seaweed probably 1 inch by 5 inch in. My fish eat this all up very quickly..

I also have some flake food that I will put a pinch in here and there. but not daily.

 

If I have a large group of people at my house sometimes I will feed a extra cube of mysis just to show the tank eating..

 

Oh, I also feed my carpet anemone a frozen uncooked shrimp once a week.

 

Also while I feed I shut off the sump but leave my closed loop system running. After about 12 mins I kick the sump back on.

Has the Copperband Butterflyfish eaten any of the Majano?

He has only been in the tank about a week, I purchased him for the majano on the advice from Mike at AM. in Ogden. So far I am not sure if he is eating at it.. I have seen him picking on the undersides of the rocks. I have seen him eat a few small mysis shrimp.. but really he hasnt shown much intrest in the food I have giving him. I have some garlic on the way hoping that will get him to start eating more. He doesnt look like he has lost any weight but its only been 7 days. The first few days the yellow tang was giving him a hardtime but seems to have accepted him being in the tank now.

 

 

 

My main pump on the closed loop system

 

My sump/refuge with algae growing in the middle with a grow light above it. Also have an all plastic top off that is tied into my ro/di filter to replace fresh water thats lost to evap.. Before I put this on I was adding about 3 gal a day manually.. 

My RO/Di filter 50 g a day (its downstairs in my basement and I have a line running to my upstairs into the tank)

I bought my tank used and it had one on it when I bought it.

I had AD move it (the tank) and they recommended me removing it.

I was curious as to everyone thoughts on these.

Its been running for about a year now with out it and my nitrates just keep on creeping up.

I know my nitrates have been staying the 30s the last few weeks despite of me running my lights more and my sump light running 24/7 plus pulling out tons of algae from the sump. I am dosing Mag to increase the algae growth. (plus a major water change 2 weeks ago)

So I am basically debating on starting this reactor back up again.

Thoughts?
