With glass you can use a razor to get coraline off. Acrylic, well there's not much that won't scratch it. You can get special pads but if you get coralin or sand stuck in it you'll scratch the acrylic. If you drop a rock and it rubs on the walls more scratches and deep at that. What is so hard about cleaning them?

I think I may end up building my own tank and acrylic certainly seems the cheaper choice. I'm still not done researching but it appears that that the acrylic needed to build a 120 is around $250 (cell cast 1/2" thick) and the glass needed for a 120 I priced it at $600 (low iron glass). 

I relish in the whole DIY stuff so building my own is almost a prerequisite but I'm still of the fence as to what material to use.

Acrylic is a huge pain to clean with a reef tank IMO! I've been thinking about building my own 120 display tank out of acrylic but I don't know a ton about differences. I know acrylic scratches easier but is there any other benifit or limitaion between glass and acrylic I need to know about?
