If it is Cyano- I have had the chance to get to know Cyano many times this past year. A few things that I learned: 1. Decrease lighting time. 2. Make sure you are not over feeding. 3. Add flow. Watch when you feed the tank, is the food all settling in one place? 4. Nip it in the butt before it gets out of hand. I agree. The warmer days naturally bring on red slime/Cyanobacteria.

Here is another question. What are the high and low temperatures of the tank?

Regarding Calcium and Alkalinity, there are some simple household chemicals that are used to bring up those levels.
