    <![CDATA[<strong>Author:</strong> <a href="http://www.utahreefs.com/forum/member_profile.asp?PF=96">jfinch</a><br /><strong>Subject:</strong> 1894<br /><strong>Posted:</strong> February&nbsp;14&nbsp;2004 at 11:17am<br /><br /><P>I've used the Seachem and Hagen ammonia kits.&nbsp; The Seachem is a little disc that you place in the water and watch it change color.&nbsp; The kit I had never showed ammonia even though the tank was in the first stages of cycling.&nbsp; The Hagen kit shows ammonia in everything, RO water, tap water, tank water.&nbsp; Needless to say, I don't like any of them.&nbsp; I'd maybe give the Salifert a try.</P><P>Although, IMO ammonia and nitrite tests are only useful in the first couple weeks or months of a tank's life.&nbsp; After that, I never test again.</P>]]>

    <![CDATA[<strong>Author:</strong> <a href="http://www.utahreefs.com/forum/member_profile.asp?PF=432">BrokeCurmudgeon</a><br /><strong>Subject:</strong> 1894<br /><strong>Posted:</strong> February&nbsp;14&nbsp;2004 at 9:41am<br /><br />I have been using Red Sea's Ammonia Test Kit since starting my Nano tank.&nbsp; At first I got a slight ammonia reading and I contributed that to cycling and initial spike.&nbsp; It then slowly diminished to what I thought was 0 ammonia.&nbsp; (Colors can and are deceiving.)&nbsp; Being the obsessed newbie that I am and after observing my xenia and toarch coral retracting and otherwise reacting to lighting, photo periods and water changes, I decided to test the tank water and RO water at the same time.&nbsp; After comparing the two colors I decided that there were some slight traces of ammonia in the tank water if the RO water (I assume) did not have any.&nbsp; My question is:&nbsp; Are there better kits available that would be more user friendly to an old and failing set of eyes?&nbsp; I have always bee less than satisfied with the color graduations of the Red Sea Ammonia Test Kit.&nbsp; Suggestions?&nbsp; Also, if the tank water does have some trace of ammonia, is there a product that will effectively absorb ammonia without affecting other water parameters?&nbsp;]]>
