Anyone ever thought about implementing a chat function on the forum? I think it'd be really neat to have conversations with fellow aquarists in an open chat. Just a suggestion that might make this space more chatty again :)

Tried it once. It doesn't seem to be easy to get people all on at the same time and really was no different than letting them comment in a thread style. I'm sure we could consider it again if enough people thought it would be better than threads.

I've honestly thought about what would happen if we turned off PM's and everything had to be posted in the visible space of the forum. That one didn't get a lot of love. lol

I think a chat area would let people share things that they don't think need its own thread. Like sharing a link quickly about the latest issue of National Geographic's spotlight on the ocean for example. Or just general chit chat about our tanks and stuff. Could be a place to have conversations about methods, general meet ups, tank emergencies and maybe even help people who are trying to find quick information about events, meetings, etc.

Edit: Plus I think its more personal and might engage people more in the conversation instead of just viewing a thread and moving on.

We do have that with our Facebook Group page but I like the idea of the forum as well.  Something to think about.

Any ideas about how to make a chat happen on here?

The chat option in here is a single chat room. Once you click the chat icon at the top of the screen you are taken to that room. Anyone else that clicks chat while you are in there will be added to the chat.  Then you type your comments at the bottom and click the submit button. It's pretty basic.
