Topic: GE Silicone I for Kitchen / Bath / Plumbing Posted: November 07 2013 at 10:00pm |
So, for the record, I read online about which silicone is safe beforehand. Everything I read at the time said that as long as it said 100% silicone and it didn't mention mold inhibitors, it was safe to use. I proceeded to use an entire bottle practically on fixing up the sump, fixing links, gluing parts, etc. on my jellyfish tank using the Kitchen/Bath/Plumbing GE. Now I read that it is the Windows / Doors that is safe and the one I bought and used is not safe even though there's no mention of any mold inhibitor ingredients. I don't think there's any way I could scrape it all off and start over. I want to know if anyone has used it with no ill effect.

Not sure if that one is safe or not. I do know that according to people on Reef Central that GE Type 1 Silicone is reef safe.
Do a Google search. It's the blue tube.

That's pretty much the consensus I've found on the Internet. Some claim that the GE 1 Kitchen/Bath/Plumbing is bad but the Doors Windows is good but I can't find any facts to back that up. I can't find any info on any label or on GE's site that says the Kitchen/Bath/Plumbing has anything other than 100% Silicone. At this point, i'm just going to hope for the best.

Ge#1 is pure. Ge #2 has mold inhibitors. I know of issues in the past from #2 but I've never seen a problem with #1. (there is hearsay every where on everything.)

There is some kitchen bath that has mold and mildew inhibitors in it. But it is labeled as such.
