 Topic: macro algae hitch hiker

After about a year of having a small rock in my tank with an unidentified coral on it, what appears to be unbrella algae is growing. Anyone ever heard of it? Good or bad?

Caulerpa nummularia - (aka Mermaid's cup)
If you have a seagrass tank, a natural reef tank, etc., then I'd keep it. However, if you run a clean setup and don't like algae taking over, then I'd remove it. It has a ton of holdfasts that make it difficult to remove later. It also grows quite fast and may take over without regular trimming. You could relocate it to a sump...just keep it out of the display (and it may go sexual...I forget if this species tends to do that.)

Lol agree with ReefdUp I put some in my display when i joined the hobby because was told it made it look natural and this and that. Well some tanks look real nice with it. But like she said if you want a clean look DONT DO IT lol. That stuff and other algae can be like super velcro. So depending on your style keep or take out. Sumps are great place for it.
