How about some details? How long have you had the fish, what are your water parameters, how long has it been since it last ate, etc.

That's right. If it is finding enough food at night, it won't need to eat during it's sleep time.
How long have you had it? If only a few weeks, then it could have an ailment and Garlic Oil may help. Look below in the Tip "Secrets of adding new fish, fish training and the miracle of Garlic Oil"
What kind of Cardinal? PJ, Bangaii or other?
Are there two or more? Is it's jaw distended? If so, what you may have is a male Cardinal carrying eggs.

Sorry about your loss. Did you read the Reefkeeping Tip? It's true that tank raised are hardier, but putting them in the right environment is extremely important. If you would like our help to ensure survivability and health, please feel free to describe the tank and post pics too. You are new here, but are you also new to the hobby of reefkeeping? I've been at this hobby since 1993, 2 years before we formed the WMAS. I believe I can help.
