It looks like black sponge to me, and is a beneficial filter feeder. It just shows your tank is healthy

Solid? No it's spongy. :-)

I can't see any hairs flowing around it though, but I'd agree that it's probably a sponge.

Sponge...I hate that kind...IME it is an acro killer if you are not careful with it.  I see it in my tank and use a toothbrush on it.  If you don't have acros that you want to put by it, you're fine.

Looks and description say Cyano to me. Have you reached in to pluck it off. Was there a knob of rock there? Can we see a full tank pic?
Looks like the hermit is already helping you. How many snails and hermits are in this _?_size tank.

is it slimey, or does it feel like sponge?

I have had both, and they do look similar. Cyano is very easy to pull off and is slimy.

Its stringy and slimy when out of water.  I tried to pick off as much as I could but there are still strings in there.  Isn't cyano supposed to recede under high flow.  Its directly in front of a Koralina 3.  Thanks guys!

it is "supposed" to but I guess it could live with the flow.... Sponge is not slimey in my opinion.
