ok i'm sure this has been gone over in detail but myself and a couple other groups at my work want to get scuba certified.

Does anyone have a preffered shop locally to do this at? Who has the best deal going for a group and also is anyone else interested in joining in?

Thanks in advance,
Dan

I would suggest that you go and talk to Jake or Lorri at Neptune they are great and I believe they offer good group rates. Tell them Riley sent you

I have been diving for 17 years, my recommendation is that you carefully choose who to certifiy with. I hold three certifications (PDIC, NAUI, PADI) and have to admit that on one of them I felt I didn't get my $$$ worth since the class seemed like one long, poorly done advertisement. I was also fortunate to have lived in Oregon and was able to frequently get out to the coast for a little spearfishing and crabing.

I am not familiar with any of the Utah shops/locations, but will say that NAUI class I had gave the best value, IMHO. It will also vary greatly from instructor to instructor. Find the instructor that will do the most qualifiying dives and the most time in the classroom. I had a friend who died on a dive in Oregon. He was newly certified and held his breath when he shouldn't have. Mother Nature doesn't care if you were just having fun. The most fun I have is when I go diving from my kayak.

Have fun, be safe. Talk to some of the students from the various local instructors to get a feel for their thoughts on the training they recieved. Make sure it's not a newbie, but someone who has been out diving for a while outside a classroom setting, as well. They can then tell you how prepared they feel they were.

If you go to Neptune, I recommend starting here on this board.  We have two of their instructors in our club.  Diverdan on this forum is teaching there now, so I'd PM him.
Many club members have been trained (some club members just finishing this week) at Dive Utah.  I think they have all been pleased with their classes.
Personally, I was certified at a Nazi type of Dive School.  Talk about doing things over and over again.  It was a very long training process.  My class was not fun, nor short, nor easy.... but it was the best training you could get. (picture the soup nazi from Seinfeld "No certification for you, next!")

Come to a meeting, they’re fun!
