ok I want to add a closed loop my setup .... the problem is my tank is so close to the wall that I am only able to get 1/2" PVC behind it ... is it going to be a major issue if I go from 3/4" down to 1/2" and back to 3/4"?

@Well .. the pump that I am looking at has a 1" inlet ... so it would go from 1" to 1/2" back to 1" ...

then the outlet is 3/4" ...  so it would be going from 3/4" ...blah ....

You will lose alot of your pressure.  Can you just leave it at 1/2 inch once you drop down?

Once you restrict, it won't matter much if you go back up in size or not.

Yes it would be a big deal. You might have to use another method of increasing flow.
