I am in the process of setting up a new tank.  The top of the canopy is 8.5 inches above the tank.  The tank is acrylic so it has the edges wrapped over. a few inches.  Its 80 gallons, 20 inches tall, 52 inches long, 18 inches deep.,  Is there room in the canopy for mh lights.  Without having to worry about them, and would you suggest hqi, or just plain old mogul base 175 watts.  Pros and cons from those who know would be very much appreciated.

I would think you would have enough room. I think I have about that same amount, and I run a HQI spacelight.

I'm not sure the different between the mogul base or HQI, but I really like my HQI. Its a smaller bulb, and I think, overall unit. But I'd definiantly go with MH in some way or another.
